Dear Conference attendees,
It is with deep regret that we write to inform you of our decision to cancel the Parkinson’s Vision 2020 conference.
After closely monitoring the COVID-19 virus situation in the UK, and around the world, we believe that this is the prudent thing to do. Our decision is based on many different factors, including:
- Our concern for the health and safety of the conference attendees, particularly those with underlying health conditions that put them at increased risk for complications with the coronavirus.
- More than half of our speakers/presenters have been restricted (by their institutions and/or places of employment) from traveling internationally.
- UK government officials have stated that they fully expect the virus situation in the UK to get dramatically worse in the coming weeks;
We will issue a full refund of the conference tickets purchased.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who worked behind the scenes to ensure the success of this conference, our panel of speakers and presenters and all the organizations that have supported us along the way. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Andy Butler for his never- ending support and dedication to seeing this conference come to fruition and also the staff/faculty at De Montfort University and the EPDA for their unwavering support of this conference.
We would like to thank all of you for supporting what was to be the first ever YOPD conference. Although we are bitterly disappointed that the conference is not going ahead as planned, the momentum behind highlighting the issues for those of us living with YOPD has been driven forward by the support of this conference through social media, media and other channels. We will be sure to keep you informed of any plans to hold this conference at a later date.
We wish you all the very best.
Parkinson’s Vision 2020 Conference Volunteer Team
This conference was born out of a meeting of people with Young Onset Parkinson's Disease (YOPD) at the wonderful World Parkinson's Congress (WPC) in Kyoto in June 2019, who saw the need for a tailored conference to meet the specific concerns and needs of those living with with YOPD. The content has been tailored to the needs of those who have to manage work, families, starting families, mortgages, caring for older family members, and all the other day to day parts of life whilst living with Parkinson's Disease. Whilst the conference is targeted to people with YOPD, their families and carers, anyone who is affected by the topics in this conference is welcome to attend. We also welcome movement disorder specialists, neurologists, GP's, nurses & health professionals who play key roles in helping us live and thrive with Parkinson's Disease.
We can't wait to see you there!
Please note that photographs and footage will be taken throughout both events.
